TODAY in the news

Wickedly delightful writing from Walter Russell Meade at the American Interest as he skewers The Mead List: World’s Top Ten Gaddafi Toads. Starting with Gaddafi Toad Number One: The “Human Rights Commission” of the “United Nations”.

Who didn't expect this?   Police: AZ beheading tied to Mexican drug cartel: the drug cartel violence is spilling over the border.

"His people" doesn't include us. Social justice at the U.S. Justice Department.    Eric Holder's People: The attorney general confirms suspicions of racial bias at the Justice Department. From James Taranto of the WSJ on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's testimony before a Congressional hearing. (Don't miss Fred Phelps: less evil than JFK, Jr.) Taranto's daily Best of the Web Today is a must-read.

People who are still alive.    I thought Rex Reed was dead but he was only watching the Academy Awards.

Self-important snobs?  Got to be academics.    NPR letter-writers are the ‘whiniest, most self-importantly insufferable snobs of all time:   Even Poynter's insufferable media booster Jim Romenesko links to Slate columnist Farhad Manjoo on those tedious NPR letter writers. "For proof that NPR letter-writers are the stodgiest, whiniest, most self-importantly insufferable snobs of all time, just search through the network's archives ..."

Try searching Google or Yahoo.     Reacting to the sick-note-writing physicians in Wisconsin, the American Academy of Physicians reminds physicians of about ethical principles. (Try looking for THAT story carried in the MSM.)

Who could predict?   NO PAROLE FOR SIRHAN SIRHAN despite a "human rights" bizarre lawyer's best efforts.

Speaking of Soviet-style Human Rights.    Gaddafi: The Steyn connection - By way of explanation, the Canadian Human Rights Commission (read: Commission to Stifle Dissent by Legal Intimidation with Lack of Protection of Laws Even Despotic Dictators Accord Their Enemies) sought a Soviet-like trial, aptly named a Tribunal, for Steyn for his "Islamophobic" writings. The Commission also went after Ezra Levant who also survived and thrives.

Censorship in Canada makes you appreciate the God-given (immutable) freedoms, including the freedom of speech in this country, that remain blessedly free of the taint of despot-imposed Human Rights.
